YWCA Offers New Group Exercise Class for Expectant and New Moms

by Shaunna Cullen

Calling all mamas! YWCA New Britain is offering a new group exercise class called FitMama.

FitMama exercise classes incorporate abdominal strength, toning, and low impact cardio for pregnant moms, or for new moms who want to bring their 0-18 month babies to class.  Baby-wearing mamas should bring soft-structure, inward facing carriers to class.  Each class is 45 minutes. What makes this class unique is its 10 minute mom-to-mom chat session prior to each workout. Having the support of other new mothers can be helpful as you adjust to your new lifestyle with baby.

Community Wellness Director Valerie Cammarota is teaching the group. "Childbirth can weaken muscles and loosen ligaments, making the transition back to exercise am important step for new moms. This class focuses on the weak, vulnerable areas that need strengthening before continuing on to a more rigorous exercise routine," she explained.

The class is offered on Tuesdays from 1:30-2:15 pm, and on Thursdays 10:45-11:30 am.

If you are a YWCA New Britain Access Pass member, the class is free. If you are not an Access Pass member, a Class Pass  is available for $50/10 classes. You can also drop in for $5/class.
