This year’s dance recital for YWCA New Britain’s School of Dance was “a huge success!” according to Performing Art Director Chris Kuzia.
For the first time, the show for both our New Britain and Bristol studios had the same theme- "Can’t Stop the Feeling.” Children ages two all the way up to 18 years old showcased their technical skills and talent in the many different styles of dance offered by the YWCA. Tap, ballet, jazz, hip hop, lyrical, pointe, and funk groups showed their friends and family what they learned in the past year.
The Bristol studio was first to take the stage. All 50 students participated in the opening number, “Can’t Stop the Feeling” by Justin Timberlake from the hit Trolls movie. Five high school senior dancers had solos, and two numbers were performed by the New Britain studio Dance Team.
The New Britain studio recital, with 137 dancers, said goodbye to five graduating high school students, all of whom earned their 15-year trophies. Another nine students were given their 10-year trophies, and 10 students received their two-year awards.
“I’m very proud of everybody. We set our expectations high. The kids always pull through. I saw many of them take advantage of extra rehearsals, and it showed. Congratulations to all of our dancers! We are so proud of their hard work and dedication, and love watching them showcase their talent,” said Chris.
While the 2017 recital is over, there are still many dance classes being offered this summer at both the New Britain and Bristol studios. For students interested in joining our competitive dance team, summer team camps will be offered. Click here for more information.
