Born to Move: Children’s Fitness Classes Come to YWCA

By Shaunna Cullen

YWCA New Britain is excited to announce new Les Mills Born to Move fitness classes for children ages 4- 12 years. The main goals of these fitness classes are to build confidence, skill, and for children to socialize with others their own age.

"We make it our goal to prepare children to develop successfully into strong and confident adults," said Valerie Cammarota, Community Wellness Director.

Born to Move for ages 4-6 has content that is specifically tailored to their age group such as finding balance, weight transfer, concentrations skills and how to move with a beat. These classes are great to help progress motor skills through imaginative play, stories, music and most importantly, fun!

Les Mills Born to Move for ages 7-12 years incorporates different styles of fitness such as dance, martial arts and yoga into one routine. To keep things fun and interesting, each class even includes a game or two so children are always engaged. The songs that go along with the class choreography are changed regularly, so children can have new moves to look forward to.

"By introducing a structured and expertly choreographed fitness curriculum at a young age, we are setting the bar high for child development. Parents will love the energy their kids burn, and kids will love the fun games and expert instructors!" said Valerie.

In addition to the opportunity to take part in evening classes, YWCA's preschool classes will be offering the curriculum to its students during their gym time twice a month. Stay tuned for more info!

Class for ages 4-6 years will be on Thursday nights from 5:45-6:30 p.m. Class for ages 7-12 will be on Tuesday nights from 5:45-6:30 p.m. These classes are included in all fitness memberships at no additional cost!
