Indoor Soccer Classes Come to YWCA

By Shaunna Cullen

YWCA New Britain Youth Sports is now offering four-week indoor soccer classes. These classes are designed to help your child’s skills stay in tip-top shape during the soccer off-season or to introduce them to a new sport.

Head coach Mirza Smajic has been playing soccer since he was 4 years old. He went on to play competitively in high school and college.

“I've learned a great deal from my coaches and hope to pass on what I've learned to the younger generation,” said Mirza.

There are two classes at this time being offered on Saturdays, starting April 7 and running until April 28:

Skills & Scrimmage (7-9 years) 9:30– 10:20 a.m.

Classes will follow a general curriculum centered around individual skill development. Athletes will learn and practice their footwork with the ball and develop their skills in game-like situations. Athletes will also engage in scrimmage play, which will help them become more comfortable in game situations. This class is perfect for those players who are new to the sport, those with limited experience, along with those who are more experienced.

Just Play (4—6 years) 10:30-11:20 a.m.

This class is a great opportunity for younger athletes to increase their coordination with and without the ball while also introducing basic skills and touches on the ball. Athletes will also be introduced to passing and shooting, education about the offense and defense roles, while increasing their spatial and body awareness.

The cost of this half session is $43. An annual $15 YWCA membership is required. Register online today.
