YWCA New Britain Celebrates Growth at 108th Annual Meeting

The 108th Annual Meeting of YWCA New Britain was held in June at the Back Nine Tavern in New Britain.  The meeting gathered together staff, volunteers, board members, and friends to celebrate YWCA’s successes in the past year.

Every year at the Annual Meeting we recognize outstanding volunteers and the invaluable work they do for us. This year awards were presented to Thalia Colon by the childcare department, Lelania Lebrun by the family literacy program, Peter Doucette by our Sexual Assault Crisis Service, and Stacey Ormsby by our administrative office.

In addition to the business meeting and volunteer recognition awards, YWCA recognized Aubrey Blatchley, member of the Board of Directors, and Rick Lopes, member of the Board of Trustees, for their dedication and service as their board terms came to an end.

Members voted on a slate of new directors at the meeting. We would like to welcome the newest members of our Board of Directors Lisa Amodio, Meagan Hill, and Michelle Tenczar.

This year's meeting highlighted our work with the Invest Health grant that helped secure programming space for our House of Teens afterschool program. YWCA New Britain, Central Connecticut State University, the New Britain Chamber of Commerce, City of New Britain, and the Community Health Center have all worked together under this initiative to establish a central hub, known as the YWCA East Street Community Center, in New Britain’s east side neighborhood in order to better serve the populations in this area of town. The goal of the center is to improve access to more wellness, education, and career opportunities.

YWCA New Britain would like to thank the Board of Directors and Trustees for their dedication and leadership, and all of our members, employees, volunteers, donors, and friends who help us remain steadfast in carrying out our important mission of eliminating racism and empowering women.  You have helped us have another wonderful and successful year!
