Advocacy

Along with being a resource in the community, an important role of YWCA is to provide education and information on public policy that impacts the lives of women and their families locally and nationally.  In addition to our programs and services, YWCA takes an active approach to advocacy and raising awareness about challenges that women face in our community.  We work to identify the most pressing needs of the women and children and fight for them so that we can turn conditions around.  YWCA staff lobby, participate in press events, write letters, make phone calls to legislators, and provide testimony in an effort to achieve our objectives.

We focus our advocacy efforts on:

  • Violence against women
  • Economic empowerment
  • Early childhood education
  • Racism & discrimination
