Chris was a competitive gymnast for 17 years. He began competing as a Junior Olympic Gymnast when he was five years old and continued all the way until he graduated from Springfield College in 2003. After graduating from college, he started coaching at New England Gymnastics Express. At Gym Express, he had the privilege of working with some of the best coaches and clinicians in the country. He's been coaching men's and women's gymnastics (Level 3-10) for over 12 years and is a certified USAG member. He is also co-owner of Empire All-Star Cheerleading & Gymnastics.
Rebecca Mirando, Youth Sports Coordinator and Xcel Coach
Rebecca was a Junior Olympic competitive gymnast for many years, where she was a multiple time, regional and national qualifier. Rebecca also competed for Southington High School, where she currently still holds the school's uneven bar record and was Class L All Around State Champion her freshman year. Rebecca has experience coaching different levels, from "Me & My Shadow" classes to working with competitive level gymnasts.
Chantel Blake, Class Instructor
Chantel has 9 years of gymnastics experience and 3 years of being on a competitive high school cheerleading team. She is continuing her passion for cheerleading at the University of Hartford. Being able to teach what she loves to do has driven her back to the YWCA, which she has grown to love ever since she was little. It gives her great joy to be able to help kids fulfill and meet their goals as well as grow their love and passion for gymnastics.
Ashley Martin, Gymnastics Coordinator, Class Instructor and Xcel Coach
Ashley has been a gymnastics instructor here at the YWCA for five years. Prior to the YWCA, Ashley taught tumbling clinics and was an 'All-Star' cheerleading coach for over seven years. She is also co-owner of Empire All-Star Cheerleading & Gymnastics. Her personal cheerleading experience coupled with her coaching training and her passion for teaching children makes her an asset to the YWCA gymnastics team.
Jaylah Green, Class Instructor
Jaylah has been a competitive cheerleader for four years and head captain of her senior year team. She started working at YWCA New Britain in June of 2017 as a youth sports instructor, and now works in the gymnastics and karate programs.
