Introducing Veronica DeLandro! Veronica is a new member of the YWCA Board of Directors. We sat down and asked her some questions recently to get to know her better.
What does the YWCA mean to you?
To me the YWCA stands for justice, equality, a space and place for women and children (specifically girls) to thrive, along with being a resource and support center for families.
What motivates you to give back to your community?
My motivation are my two children. I can’t predict the future but what I can do during the time that I am on this planet is to make sure that the community they live in and are a part of is safe and secure.
How you do empower women and/or promote diversity in your own life?
As a Black woman, everything I am and do is centered around who I am. I promote diversity by making sure I’m in spaces and places where voices like mine aren’t normally heard. I then make it a point to share that information so that there can be a more inclusive conversation.
What song is your favorite empowerment jam?
My empowerment jam would be “Who Runs The World” by Beyonce.
What book has meant the most to you in your life?
Michelle Obama’s Becoming.
We look forward to working with Veronica in her board role over the next three years. Please give her a warm welcome if you see her around!
