PREVENTION
EDUCATION

Prevention is possible.

Everyone plays a role in preventing sexual violence. Primary prevention of sexual violence stops violence before it happens and requires addressing the root causes of violence. We can do this by creating communities where people feel safe and respected, and by promoting safe behaviors, healthy relationships, and respect for others.

Sexual violence is a form of oppression and is deeply connected to other types of oppression, including racism, sexism, homophobia, ableism, xenophobia, and others. Oppression is based on a need for power and control and results in one group experiencing more privilege than others. These forms of oppression often work together to silence survivors of abuse and can make it difficult for survivors to seek help. Ending sexual violence requires looking critically at all different forms of oppression and working to end violence in all its forms.

Training is available.

SACS offers a variety of trainings that may benefit your program, school, or agency. Let us help you empower your staff, students, and/or faculty and shine a light on an issue that impacts 1 in 5 Connecticut residents
(CT Alliance to End Sexual Violence)

For schools and students, SACS programs were developed to fulfill the guides set by Public Act. No. 14-196, An Act Concerning a State Wide Sexual Abuse and Assault Awareness Program, also known as “Erin’s Law.” Programs are designed to prevent violence by encouraging positive, prosocial behaviors and empowering students to recognize unhealthy behaviors, practice healthy communication surrounding their feelings, and identify trusted adults and resources in their community. Examples of programming include topics such as What is Consent?, Body Safety & Autonomy, Sexual Harassment, Media Messages, and Internet Safety.

SACS also offers trainings for professionals across all disciplines, providing participants the tools to respond to disclosures of sexual violence, prevent and identify child sexual abuse, address sexual harassment, and much more. These trainings are tailored to your specific needs, making both length and content negotiable.
